What happens when you take four incredible artists from the four corners of the inter-web, bring them together and house them under one roof?
Good question! We don’t know, but we DO know what happens when you take a few art-lovin’ creative types, mix in an online forum and a bit of collaboration, add a dash of respect for each other’s work and bake it at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Wa-la!
CRASH LAND STUDIO!
What is it?
Crash Land Studio is comprised of 4 Artists with one goal. To provide all ages comics and art in an entertaining way. It’s a collaboration between Jamie Cosley, Tommy Flick, Eric Merced and Josh Alves.
These guys have been creating, self-publishing and freelancing, independently and cooperatively for years. They’ve been encouraging each other and cross-promoting all the while and decided to come together to do it a bit more formal-like.
What’s with the name? Isn’t crashing a bad thing?
Funny you mention that? The name is the end result of a list of names that was brainstormed (thank you Captain Obvious!) Many of the other names (and specifically domain names
) were already taken. But ultimately we felt that “Crash Land” best represented our take on how we approach what we do. It’s a mentality that says “if-it-doesn’t-hurt-to-try-why-not”? A constant reminder to push and improve our abilities. It’s permission to look fear in the face and say “Watch what I can do!” as you leap off the roof with just a pillow case for a parachute.
Ok, maybe that last part not-so-much.
Seriously, it’s a way to take the work seriously, without taking ourselves too seriously. That, and knowing that every landing is just a controlled crash (poetic ain’t it?
)
Who are these guys?
Tommy Flick:
Tommy was born, played with Star Wars toys, and Transformers, and read like 3 million comics. He feels that’s all the preparation you need to create a comic book.
He lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife, 2 kids, dog, and would like to go out for a cup of coffee.
Eric Merced:
From very early on in my childhood, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to be an Artist. I wanted to draw for a living. It was, and continues to be my passion. At first I labored with love over each one of my drawings for the pure fun of it. And now, Im happy to say I’m doing what I set out to do so many years ago. I am still laboring over each and every one of my drawings with love, while having fun, only I’m doing it as living.
Jamie Cosley:
Jamie has been drawing comics professionally since 1998. He currently writes and draws a webcomic “Nobody Likes Tony Pony” that also appears every other week in the Monday Morning Quarterback — a national online magazine all about contract furnishings. He’s very passionate about his family (and if you’re familiar with his comic strip you already know that) and his home studio JKAT stands for Jamie, Kristy, Ava and Tyler. You can contact him here
Josh Alves
Josh is a Maine-based graphic designer and cartoonist. He has created the self-published series “Araknid Kid”. An all-ages adventure comic that first appeared on Zuda and later “aired” at SugarySerials.com (print edition available in the store /end plug). He also writes and draws the self-syndicated comic strip “Tastes Like Chicken”. Along with art he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters as well as playing guitar and perfmorning sleight-of-hand magic tricks.
