Rain Is Coming

Posted by Eric Merced On December - 29 - 2009

As I mentioned in my previous post, one of the projects I am involved with is a 1 shot comic book I wrote. Well, I've finished the script and started on the art. There's definitely allot of work to be done. It's not going to be easy but I'm looking forward to the challenge. I've already started on the art and I just wrapped up pencils and letters for page 2 today. I'm eager to let the news out on the new book but, I want to cover enough ground as far as pages are concerned before I make any formal announcement.

The reason I've made this choice is because I want to make sure I present everyone with a final product they will be able to, hopefully, enjoy as much (or even more) as I am making it. I really don't want to follow in my foot steps from my past where I would hype about a project and never complete anything. So, so far so good.

One thing I have done, however, is to create a space for the project on my website. There's not much there now, but there will be as soon as I get ready to reveal a bit more. Bookmark the webpage and keep your eyes peeled.

Go to the project page here!

Another very good way to keep up with the project, and even get behind the scenes shots of the project is by following me on Twitter (as an example, I posted 3 behind the scenes screen shots tonight alone!). This is the best place to read, first hand, from me any news related to the project. So go ahead, get yourself a Twitter account if you don't already have one and follow me for more news.

Drawing, Writing and Revamping

Posted by Eric Merced On December - 29 - 2009
Well, I've sure been silent for what seemed like two weeks of constant updates here. But I've been quite for good reasons.
I'd like to share with you what I'm currently cooking up in the ol' Stick figure dancer kitchen.
First off, I'm working on 50 Voltron Sketch Cards for 5FINITY. Once those are approved I'm going to post them here. These are fun, but man, I did not realize those Robot lions were going to be such a kick in the @$$ to draw. Oh well.
Next, I've been writing. Lots of writing. I'm working on a 1 shot Detective/Noir comic based on one of my characters called Frank Rain. The art, however, is going to be slightly different. Based on some short responses I got on Twitter, I'm going to draw the entire comic in this style

The only different thing is the approach to inking. Which I feel is going to lend to the whole Noir feeling a bit better. But I'm very excited about this comic. And it's being done in Manga Studio EX 4. Everything is being done there. The writing, the page layouts, the penciling, the inking and the lettering are all being done inside Manga Studio EX 4. That's a first for me, but this program is quite capable of handling all of that and it's really cool.

I have several projects with other writers as well, but I've put those on hold to get my story across. Or at least try too. I've been struggling with writing for so long that it feels great to finally break free from that struggle and write something I feel good about.
Apart from that, I'm thinking of taking one of my superhero characters and totally revamping him. I'm not going to say much about it, because it's too early to say anything really, but if Frank Rain works out, you'll be hearing about my character's revamp since it will most likely be the next thing I tackle.
Well, that's it for now. Thanks for reading. Hope you are all enjoying yourselves.
Until next time!

Sherlock Holmes Sketch Card

Posted by Eric Merced On December - 27 - 2009
This was a commission for Sadlittles Legends & Lore card set. I had the option of drawing any character of my choice and thought, given the new movie that just came out, I'd tackle a character I've never drawn before. Sherlock Holmes. Enjoy!
